San Antonio Sex Crimes Defense Attorney Protects the Rights of Clients

Texas firm represents people in alleged sexual assaults

A sex crime conviction changes your life forever. In addition to facing potential prison time, fines and other punishment, you will be placed on the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry, an open record available online. With so much at stake, it’s important to have a strong legal defense that fights for your rights. Tylden Shaeffer, Attorney at Law, P.C. in San Antonio doesn’t back down when clients are accused of rape, indecency involving a child or another crime of a sexual nature. I’m aware of the special concerns and legal elements associated with these cases and know how to give the people I represent the best chance at a favorable result.

Accomplished advocate handles cases involving claims of illegal contact

Juries can be very tough on people charged with sexual offenses, so it’s important to retain a proven, board-certified criminal defense lawyer who can challenge police and prosecutors in matters alleging:

  • Sexual assault — What some jurisdictions refer to as rape is charged as sexual assault under Texas law. These prosecutions stem from sexual contact that allegedly occurs without one person’s consent or when someone is not able to give legal consent. Even if someone agrees to engage in sex, a charge can still be brought if that person was too young, incapacitated due to alcohol or if the defendant, such as a clergy member, coach or teacher, was in a position of authority over the alleged victim.
  • Aggravated sexual assault — The existence of one or more aggravating factors can increase a sexual assault charge to a first-degree felony. Factors include the existence or threat of serious or fatal harm, use of a “date rape” drug, multiple offenders and a victim who is elderly, disabled or under the age of 14.
  • Allegations involving children — Continuous sexual abuse of a child, defined as two or more acts within a period of 30 or more days, is punishable by 25 to 99 years in prison. These cases can be incredibly sensitive and emotional even if a lesser count is involved, such as indecency with a child. My firm understands how to get at the truth even if there are sharp differences about what occurred and the reliability of witnesses.
  • Harassment — Though harassment is prohibited by the Texas Penal Code and can have sexual overtones, it should not be confused with civil sexual harassment claims that occur in a workplace. If you’ve been accused of criminally tormenting, alarming or abusing someone else, I will assess the evidence against you and help you decide how to proceed.

Whatever led to the allegations against you, I’ll provide a fresh, well-informed perspective on the pertinent legal issues and work tirelessly to safeguard your fundamental rights.

Knowledgeable advocate advises on consent and other available defenses

Sexual assault cases are unlike other types of crimes because the alleged victim’s state of mind can often be a key issue. When consent is a potential defense, I use a detailed analysis of the evidence and focused questioning when appropriate to bolster my client’s case. My firm also works tirelessly to identify and present other potential defenses such as mistaken identity or lack of the requisite intent.

Tylden Schaeffer advised me to not have a second interview with the police department and found time in his schedule to meet with me that day. After the meeting, I had a path to move forward on and that included a well written statement that Mr. Schaeffer crafted. After submitting this in lieu of a second interview with the police, there were no more problems with the school district or police department. Mr. Schaeffer did a superb job and had me resting more easily following our meetings. I would highly recommend Mr. Schaeffer to anyone in need of a Criminal Defense Attorney." - Anonymous

He personally attended each and every one of my hearings and was just as concerned about restoring my reputation as I was. He recently got a motion for non-disclosure filed and approved by the judge so I will never have to admit this mistake ever happened. I would recommend Tylden to anyone! He is a highly intelligent and competent attorney. The Best!" - Anonymous

  • "I was represented by Mr. Shaeffer years ago (2004). He would travel from San Antonio all the way to Del Rio to represent me. My father and I were accused of wrong doing by federal agents and we had done nothing. We, my father and I were on trial simultaneously. We had hired an attorney and found out later he was friends with the prosecutor and wanted us to accept a plea bargain. “We did nothing wrong”, I cried to him. He insisted that we accept due to it being impossible to beat the Government. My father and I were close to giving up when we met Mr. Shaeffer. Mr. Shaeffer believed in us and fought for us. Because of him, I never saw prison walls nor was I ever away from my family. It was one of the most difficult times in my life, but thankfully we met a Godsend attorney and justice prevailed." - Anonymous
